How Does Snap Comms Work?

Here you’ll find some of the technical details explaining how the Snap Comms solution works and its components.

Overview:

As a Communicator, you will log into the Content Manager (with username and password) and create a message using one of the Snap Comms available.

After setting up the message with the options you want, click ‘publish’, and the message will be broadcast to your chosen audience - the Snap Delivery Platform will send the message out over the internet to the Snap Client program of each targeted user. The Snap Client will then display your message onscreen at the time you’ve chosen.

When your message has been displayed, and/or if the user has interacted with the message (in whatever way they’ve been prompted), the Snap Client will also feed this information back to the Snap Delivery Platform.  Communicators can immediately view activity in the results/reporting area of the Content Manager.

Snap Comms:

These are the broadcasting channels, each with distinct look and delivery appropriate to different situations and messages.  (You will find short descriptions in the sidebar to the right with links to more information about each Snap Comms tool.)

Snap Content Manager:

This is the Communicator’s view, the heart of operations for Administrators.  The Snap Content Manager is a secure web portal through which you manage your company’s use of the entire Snap solution.

You are able to:

The Content Manager screenshot above shows you how the Administrator view is organized:  on the left is a menu showing campaigns (with messages and results under each) as well as User details. The left-hand side displays the working pages with easy to understand prompts, through which you will manage your messages, Administrators and User Groups. Click through to Tutorials and User Guides from the black menu bar at the top.

Snap Client:

This is the small program (approx. 1.6M) which runs on the user’s PC and is visible from the systems tray as the Snap icon (pictured). (This application can easily be mass deployed to users by your IT dept.) The primary function of the Snap Client is to manage the display of messages/content onto the computer screen.  The Snap Client is also the User’s gateway to submitting articles or comments, checking their message history, and setting their personal preferences.

When a user clicks on the Snap Client icon on their taskbar, the Message History Screen will appear, allowing them to access any previously displayed messages that are still active.

Snap Communications Delivery Platform:

The Snap solution is hosted and managed remotely and works similarly to internet banking. The Snap Servers on which the solution runs are hosted in secure, telco-grade data centers.  They are the staging point for the delivery of all of Snaps communications services. All operational facets of the Snap Communications Channels (including templates), the Snap Client, the Snap Content Manager, Target User Group profiles and Network Connectivity are provided and managed from the Snap Communications Servers.

Snap Network Connectivity:

The Snap Client initiates communications with the Snap Servers via the Internet using a browser (e.g. I.E 7) and any new content/messages are downloaded onto the Snap Client in HTML format in the return communication. All communications including content are compressed and encrypted and transmitted over a secure SSL connection. Firewall ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS) need to be open.
